I believe that the right support can help us get clarity and find our way through any difficult period.
Why I became a therapist
My journey began with a desire for self-exploration. I started to enjoy my work so much that I decided to train as a therapist. Working with addictions, anger, relationships, self-esteem, stresss and many other issues, I realised that I found this work very enriching and rewarding to my life. The more I did it, the more I enjoyed it. And the journey carried on.
I offer couple therapy in addition to the individual work I do and find that helping my clients find a way through their times of difficulty brings me immense joy. My experience tells me that most of us know what we want but tend to cloud our desires with fear, anger, and a whole range of other emotions. Sometimes, it is simply a lack of clarity for being too close.
With the right tools and support, and by talking this through, I can help you get the clarity you seek. And you can go on to find the relationship that makes you happy and the life that you like living. I claim to the be the expert of only one life - my own! And I can help you become the expert of yours.
Style of working
From a counselling perspective, my style of working is integrative. This basically means that I draw upon different theories to inform my work. Some of these are psychodynamic, humanistic, existential, CBT, REBT, goal focused, solution oriented, , systemic, and others. The style is often times dictated by three things - your preferences, what you want to work on and whether this is short-term or long-term work. For the change to be lasting sometimes an engagement at many levels, including mental, emotional, spiritual and physical is required. I work with you to identify these and work with them.
We do a lot of talking and I also introduce creative techniques to provoke thought and understanding.
